Ion Counter

</dt>
An apparatus which counts the number of unit charges of electricity which are contained in a sampled volume of the atmosphere. See aspiration condenser, Ebert ion counter. Compare ionization chamber. </dd>
The design of the ion counter depends upon the mobility of the ions under investigation. The general procedure is to pass a sample of the atmosphere through a charged cylindrical condenser. The type of ions collected will depend upon the capacity of the condenser and the polarizing potential. The change in the potential drop across the condenser is a measure of the ionic charge collected. [[/a>|/a> ]]
